Hi, I’m Abi. I like to make cool stuff, mainly jewelry but I’ve also been dabbling in doodles and cross stitch.
I started making jewelry at age 12 when I was gifted a kit to crochet bracelets out of elastic string and seed beads. These were wildly popular amongst the other girls on the school bus. There was such a demand I started selling them, and used the money to buy more beads and string. I also branched out in materials, buying wire and pliers. As the community learned about my work, they started donating their old jewelry to my hobby. I would also scrounge antique stores and estate sales for jewelry to rework and harvest wire out of old electronics. I built up an inventory and sold at the local farmers market, garage sales, and later craft fairs and festivals. These days I’ve been making gifts and commissions for friends and building inventory in hopes to sell art a local shop soon.
My mission as an artist is to make people feel connected and seen, and to communicate my own ideas. Art has a unique ability to carry meaning through time. A piece means one thing to you when you get it, and its meaning evolves and intertwines with you over time. If it has a long life, perhaps it will go on to charm someone else. When you pull out a pair of earrings, memories surface of why you bought them or who gave them to you, for what occasion, and what happened last time you wore them. Maybe they’re lucky, maybe they’re the vibe for today. I want my art to speak like this. I want it to make people feel seen and connected and think about stuff.
My favorite thing to make is gifts and commissions. I love the collaborative nature of matching someone’s style. I love how it challenges my creative skills, and I love having the recipient in mind while I’m creating a piece. In effort to make more art like this, I have created a mailing list🤗. It’s an old-fashioned snail-mail mailing list. I get to know you a little bit (you fill out a form - it pops up when you click join) and I send you a personalized gift sometime in the next year. The year long timeline allows me to ponder what you’ve shared and conjure inspiration at its natural pace. Your surprise will come at a time inspired by the universe and will ideally become an omen, perfectly timed to give you a sign or pull you out of a spiral.
